The old carpet and grippers came up and the staircase was rebuilt around a new balustrade: white spindles under a pine handrail and newel post that match the handrail on the wall.

A soft grey carpet runs up the stairs, and a dark wood-effect floor through the hall below makes the stairs the feature of the entrance.
